At 11:44 a.m. on Tuesday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle traffic accident that sent a 73-year-old Norfolk man to the hospital after his vehicle left 566th Avenue about eight miles north of Stanton and entered the steep ditch striking a tree. Mutual aid played an important part in extricating him from the wreckage after Stanton Fire and Rescue was unavailable and mutual aid from Pilger EMTS, Hoskins and Norfolk Fire/Rescue responded to the scene. After nearly thirty minutes, the driver Gene Evans was safely removed from the tilting vehicle that was sitting at a precarious angle. The vehicle was secured with chains from a wrecker to preventing it from rolling over before Evans was moved using safety equipment and ropes. Evans was then transported to FRHS by Norfolk Rescue with non-life-threatening injuries. Evans was wearing a seatbelt and was later issued a citation for not having a Valid Driver’s License. The accident was located by a passing motorist on the county road. Stanton County Emergency Management also assisted at the scene.
