At about 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to a call of a shooting at a farm house on 840th Road about five miles northeast of Stanton. Upon arriving at the scene a male victim was located outside at the house deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. No firearm was located near the body and upon clearing the residence a handgun was located inside the residence. The Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the manner of death and evidence was collected at the scene and a forensic post-mortem is being scheduled in Omaha. Several persons have been interviewed regarding the incident. “There is no belief that there is any threat to public safety at this time.”

Following an investigation into the shooting death of Jacob Sukup, 22, of Norfolk the Stanton County Sheriff’s office has determined the manner of death and no further criminal investigation is being undertaken at this time. The family has been notified of the findings and initial results of the post-mortem that was conducted in Omaha. The Sheriff’s office appreciates the support of the community and ask for prayers for the family of Jakob.
