Stanton County Sheriff’s Office Compares Very Well or Leads the Way with Other Counties in Seventh Judicial District in Arrest and Citations Issued

End of the year statistics from the 7th Judicial District show that the Stanton County Sheriff’s office again led the district in traffic citations issued and was second only to the much larger Madison County in Criminal Arrest. Stanton County ended 2024 with 341 criminal arrest and 2408 traffic violations filed. Stanton County is the smallest county in population in the district and has only nine sworn officers working for the Sheriff’s office with no other municipal police in the county. Madison County has around 70 sworn officers total that includes the Sheriff’s office, City of Norfolk Police Division and other small-town officers in the most populated county in the district. “We take a great deal of pride in doing our job and traffic enforcement is part of that job. Unfortunately, that is often an unpopular portion of our mission that the public takes exception with, yet it has proven to reduce traffic accidents and aggressive driving behavior. As long as I ‘am the Stanton County Sheriff we are going to continue making traffic enforcement a priority when not dealing with calls for service or criminal activity. We issue twice as many warnings as citations and the numbers speak for themselves in the district. We also did so being understaffed one to two deputies throughout the entire year of 2024.” Sheriff Mike Unger
