Just after 6:00 p.m. on Monday evening, the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle rollover accident about eight miles northeast of Clarkson on Hwy 15 near the intersection of 825th Road. The accident occurred when a southbound car driven by Sergio Ibarra, 21, of Sioux City, IA left the roadway crossing over the northbound lane and entered the ditch striking a concrete culvert and rolling end over end before coming to rest on 825th Road. It was unclear if seatbelts were in use and multiple airbags did deploy. Ibarra was transported to the West Point hospital by Clarkson Fire/Rescue with serious injuries. Speed is considered a contributing factor and Ibarra was cited for Driving During Suspension and Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia. Stanton County Emergency Management and the Colfax County Sheriff’s office assisted at the scene. The vehicle was a total loss.
