At about 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, the Sheriff’s office stopped a vehicle on Hwy 24 near the Dollar General for having expired tags on the vehicle. During the stop the female driver was also found not to have proof of insurance on the vehicle. She then refused to cooperate and refused commands as it appeared she was going to get back in her vehicle and drive off. She was physically restrained and continued to struggle when assistance arrived. Deann Karpowich, 57, of Norfolk was finally subdued and handcuffed. She was then booked at the Sheriff’s office on the traffic offenses and Obstructing a Police Officer. Karpowich was released after posting a cash bond. She is scheduled to appear in court next month. Her vehicle was impounded and towed from the scene.
