On Saturday morning just after 7:00 a.m. the Sheriff’s office responded to an assist other agency in Norfolk after a shooting event on South 11th Street in Norfolk. The Sheriff’s office assisted in securing the residence and searching for an armed female who had fled the scene on foot. Just after 10:00 a.m. a Stanton County Sheriff’s deputy thought to check the Norfolk Public Library on North 4th Street and within minutes encountered the female inside and immediately detained her at gunpoint until additional law enforcement arrived to help take her into custody. She was found to have a loaded 9mm pistol with a round in the chamber at the time of the encounter. The female who is from out of state faces multiple felony charges in Madison County. Fourtunately no one was stuck by the gunfire on 11th Street and no one else was injured during the arrest. This is a perfect example of cooperation between area law enforcement agencies in a dangerous situation involving innocent bystanders.
