Felony Drug Arrest and later Two DWI Arrest from ATV Accident

On Thursday evening at about 10:00 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office stopped a vehicle South of Pilger on Hwy 15 for a speeding violation.  During the contact with the lone driver, Raul Calderon, 21, of Grand Island he was found to be driving with a suspended license and also had a large quantity of the controlled substance Psilocybin mushrooms and drug paraphernalia in his possession.  Calderon was also confirmed to be wanted on two felony arrest warrants out of Woodbury County, Iowa for drug violations.  Calderon was placed under arrest on the felony charges and jailed.

On Friday morning just after 1:30 a.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of two ATV’s being involved in an accident at a Woodland Park intersection and that one driver was unconscious and bleeding.  Upon arriving the Sheriff’s office located one injured party who had been ejected from his ATV and was seriously injured at the intersection of Meadow Lane and North Eastwood.  The injured driver Charles Cummings, 45, of Norfolk was transported to FRHS from the scene by Hoskins/Woodland Park rescue.  Cummings was also cited for unlawful operation of an ATV and Driving While Intoxicated.  The driver of the second ATV that was involved, Eric Sloan, 34, of Norfolk was not injured and was also arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and unlawful operation of an ATV.  Neither driver was wearing a helmet nor were the ATV’s properly equipped for night time driving.
