Just before 9:00 p.m. on Friday night the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle accident about three miles east of Norfolk on Hwy 24. The accident occurred when a eastbound car driven by a 29 year old Stanton man left the roadway for unknown reasons and entered the south ditch and travelled nearly 300 yards along the ditch before coming to a stop. The car was airborne at one point and just missed several power poles and uprooted at least three larger pine trees after striking them. Seatbelts were in use and airbags did deploy in the now totaled vehicle. The lone driver was treated at the scene by EMS and declined medical transport. Stanton Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene. “Seatbelts clearly lessened any serious injuries in this unusual accident.”
