On Thursday afternoon about 3:30 p.m. a traffic stop by the Stanton County Sheriff’s office for driving left of center led to the arrest of a 30 year old Wakefield woman on a Federal ICE detainer for unlawful entry into the the united States. During the traffic stop on Hwy 15 about ten miles south of Wayne, the lone driver, Tania Mejia-Contreras, 30, was found to not have a valid drivers license and a further records check came back with the federal detention hold warrant. Mejia-Contreras was taken into custody and booked on the federal charge and then turned over to an ICE representative and placed into federal custody at a jail facility. “Again proactive traffic enforcement leads to locating and arresting someone violating the laws of the United States.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
