At around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of suspicious activity at a salvage yard off Hwy 32 about six miles east of Madison. Upon arriving and with assistance from the Madison County Sheriff’s office, a man and woman were taken into custody after they were found inside the property after entering through a closed gate. Marshall Gronenthal, 45, Columbus and Amber Myhre, 32, of Sioux Falls, SD were found in the process of allegedly taking vehicle parts and were arrested on theft related crimes. Gronenthal faces charges of Attempted Theft, Criminal Trespass, Possession of Burglar Tools, and also Driving During Suspension and Fictitious Plates on his vehicle. Myhre was charged with Attempted Theft, Criminal Trespass and Possession of Burglar Tools. She was further found to be wanted in South Dakota on a parole Violation. Both suspects have prior theft convictions and a Sawzall reciprocating saw was recovered from the pair that is commonly used to remove catalytic convertors. The property owner who was a lifetime area resident recently passed away unexpectedly.
