Icy Roads Cause 2 Vehicle Injury Accident on Hwy 275

At about 7:11 a.m. on Friday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a two-vehicle near head-on accident on Hwy 275 near 568th Avenue. The accident occurred when a westbound pickup lost control due to icy road conditions and crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound SUV and they collided nearly head-on. Both vehicles came to a rest on the shoulder, and the 63-year-old driver of the SUV was later extricated from his wreckage by Pilger Fire and Rescue using the extrication equipment. He was transported to FRHS by Norfolk Fire and Rescue. The driver of the pickup, 33, of Omaha was treated at the scene by Stanton Rescue and later transported to FRHS by a private vehicle. Airbags deployed in both vehicles and the driver of the SUV was unrestrained. Both vehicles were considered total losses, and the highway was limited to one lane for about one hour as it was investigated and cleared.

First Responders extricate the SUV driver

Just after this accident the Sheriff’s office responded to another accident call on Hwy 275 near the Hwy 57 spur and it occurred when a westbound SUV lost control and entered the median causing all the airbags to deploy and came to rest just onto the east bound lane. The female driver and her two small children were not injured in the accident and declined medical attention.
