At about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to a physical disturbance at a residence in Pilger. While enroute the call was upgraded to a cutting involving a knife. Upon arrival two juveniles were found to have injuries from a large butcher knife that had been wielded by one of those injured, a 16 year old female. Both she and a 14 year old male were treated at the scene by Pilger Rescue and the 16 year old was transported to FRHS for further treatment. A 22 year old female Kaylee Allen, Pilger, was arrested on charges of Third Degree Assault and Disturbing the Peace and the 14 year old male was also cited for Third Degree Assault and Disturbing the Peace. The 16 year old female who is still hospitalized will be charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, Disturbing the Peace and being an Uncontrollable Juvenile upon her release from the hospital. The Sheriff’s office had responded to a disturbance at the residence earlier in the day involving the same parties and have had numerous contacts with the juvenile female in the last several weeks. “This is a perfect example of our broken system, as we are not equipped and lack resources in dealing with juveniles that are often suffering from mental illness and lack of parental involvement or control. Law Enforcement does the best we can with what we have to work with and we are fortunate that no one was more seriously injured or killed in this incident.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
