At about 9:48 a.m. on Wednesday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was notified of an equine accident about 7.5 miles southwest of Stanton. A 63 year old rider had been thrown from her galloping horse striking her head on a metal gate and falling to the ground. She was able to briefly use her smart watch to initiate 911 before contact was lost. Initial efforts to locate her were fruitless in the rugged terrain and her unknown exact location. She was finally found by Sheriff Mike Unger and Stanton EM Mike Frohberg using a drone. Both first responders are EMT’s and treated the female until Norfolk Fire and Rescue Fire medics arrived and took over care after being sent due to Stanton Rescue being unable to respond. LifeNet helicopter was also initially sent to the scene but cancelled enroute and the female was transported to FRHS for treatment of possible head and internal injuries. The rider was alone at the time of the incident and horse involved was safely secured. UPDATE: ** The victim was transferred to UNMC for further treatment Wednesday afternoon**
