Good Samaritan Hospitalized After Stopping at Truck Fire on Hwy 275

Just before 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was notified of a truck fire and responded to the scene at Hwy 275 and 569th Avenue, The pickup had been westbound on Hwy 275 when the driver noticed a fire in the engine compartment and pulled off the roadway and shortly after the pickup was fully engulfed with ammunition being cooked off in the fire. The driver was able to escape unharmed, but a 37 year old good Samaritan stopped to help and was overcome by the intense heat and smoke. The helpful female was six months pregnant was moved to a patrol unit where she became unresponsive and was revived by EMT’s from Pilger Rescue and the Sheriff’s office. She was then transported to FRHS by Norfolk Rescue for treatment. The heavy black smoke was blowing north across Hwy 275 causing poor visibility. The pickup was a total loss and Stanton and Pilger Fire responded to the put the fire out. Stanton County Emergency Management also assisted the Sheriff’s office at the scene.
