Around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle semi and trailer injury accident on Hwy 275 near 560th Avenue about three miles east of Norfolk. The accident occurred when a westbound semi and tank trailer hauling milk left the roadway and travelled up a steep hill and then back down the embankment before coming to rest high centered in the outside westbound lane of Hwy 275. It is possible that the 28 year old driver from Spencer, IA suffered a medical episode prior to leaving the roadway. The driver did suffer head injuries and was transported to FRHS by Norfolk Fire and Rescue. The westbound lanes of Hwy 275 were closed for about 1 1/2 hours as the scene was investigated and cleared. Westbound Traffic on the four lane highway was backed up for about one mile during this time. Stanton County Emergency Management also assisted on scene as did D & L Towing of Norfolk who towed the fully loaded trailer of milk to its final destination at Milk Specialities. “Its very fortunate that the semi and trailer did not roll after leaving the roadway and the entire event was caught on a traffic camera in the area.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
