Omaha Man Arrested for Speeds over 100 mph and Driving Drunk

On Saturday evening at about 7:15 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office observed an eastbound vehicle on Hwy 275 about 6 miles east of Norfolk traveling at 103 mph in the 70-mph zone. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was found to be intoxicated. Ke’Jaun Jones, 28, of Omaha failed roadside sobriety tests and provided a preliminary breath sample that was nearly three times the legal limit. He was placed under arrest for DWI and booked at the Sheriff’s office where he failed a chemical breath test. The vehicle that Jones was driving had just been reported as driving erratically as it entered the west side of Norfolk on Hwy 275. A partially clothed female in the vehicle was also extremely intoxicated and had to be transported from the scene. Jones is scheduled to appear next month in court. In a separate traffic stop later Saturday night, the Sheriff’s office encountered a westbound motorcycle on Hwy 275 about four miles east of Norfolk speeding at 129 mph in the 70-mph zone. The motorcycle continued into Norfolk before it was finally stopped by the Sheriff’s office. The driver, Jason Wagner, 17, of Norfolk was cited for the speed violation and given a court date next month. “Speed kills and add alcohol consumption to the mix and it becomes even more dangerous! Thankfully on these occasions no one got hurt. For those that ask why weren’t they arrested for Reckless Driving–the answer is simple as Nebraska law only allows Reckless Driving based on speed alone to be enforced if the violation is for double the posted speed and on this stretch of Hwy 275 that would be 140 mph. Just another “Feel Good” law from our legislature.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
