Just after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office stopped a westbound vehicle on Hwy 275 near Pilger. The lone male driver provided a Guatemalan I.D. and that identity showed he had a suspended drivers license in Nebraska. A further check found that the name on the I.D. was not his actual identity and he was actually found to be Mauricio Manchu-Guajaca, 37, of Norfolk. A further check found that he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant from Madison County in 2013 and using a separate alias was also wanted in Cedar County since 2017 for DWI. Using a portable fingerprint device (AFIS) during the traffic stop, the Sheriff’s office confirmed that Manchu-Guajaca was the wanted person in both those counties under the different names. He was then booked at the Sheriff’s office on new charges of Driving During Revocation and Criminal Impersonation for knowingly providing false identification documents. Manchu-Guajaca was then jailed pending court appearances and is confirmed to be in the country illegally and ICE will be notified of his detention.. He advised he was currently working for a large rural pork business in the area. “Excellent work by deputies helps get another felon off the roadways and hopefully sends a message to those here illegally that you will get caught if you travel through Stanton County!” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
