Atkinson Man Arrested on Protection Order Violation Following Traffic Violation Stop

At about 3:25 p.m. on Friday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office encountered a southbound sedan on Hwy 15 near the Hwy 32 junction with excessive Tinted Windows. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver, was identified as Jose Alfaro-Rivas, 30, of Atkinson. He was also found to have a suspended license and no proof of insurance the vehicle. A female passenger in the vehicle was identified and it was discovered through a records check that she was the protected party in a valid Protection Order from Holt County and Alfaro-Rivas was to have no contact in anyway with her. He was subsequently arrested on that violation and jailed pending the setting of a cash bond. It was further determined that Alfaro-Rivas is probably in the country illegally. “Pro-active enforcement of legitimate traffic offenses by the Sheriff’s office again leads to a potentially dangerous person and driver being removed from our roadways.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
