Stanton Man Arrested on Felony Drug Violation Following Traffic Contact

On Sunday afternoon about 1:00 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office observed a vehicle being driven on a county road west of Stanton by a man known to not have a valid operators license. Contact was made with Richard Coates, 60, of Stanton who verified he didn’t have a valid license. During this contact he as also found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and was also found in a possession of a crystalline substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Coates was placed under arrest and then booked at the Sheriff’s office on charges of No Operators License, Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Methamphetamine. Coates was also charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs. Coates was then jailed pending the posting of yet to be set cash bond. Coates has two prior felony drug related convictions. “This is great work by vigilant deputies getting an impaired driver and felon off our county roads when others are also out enjoying a Sunday drive.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
