Just before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle accident on Hwy 15 near 823rd Road in southeastern Stanton County. The accident occurred when a northbound SUV being driven by Diane Grismer, 73, of Henry, SD left the highway and entered the steep east ditch and then continued into a grass field where it travelled several hundred yards at highway speed and then as it neared a county road (823rd) it became airborne for more than 60 feet over the county road and landed in a newly planted bean field and travelled about 40 more yards before coming to a stop. Grismer and her adult male passenger had to be removed from the vehicle by First Responders and were then transported to St. Francis hospital in West Point for treatment by rescue units from Howells and Clarkson. Seatbelts were in use and airbags did deploy and are credited with preventing more severe injuries. The Sheriff’s office was also assisted at the scene by Stanton County Emergency Management and the Colfax County Sheriff’s office.
