At about 7:53 a.m. on Thursday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy 35 and 844th Road (North Eastwood) near Woodland Park. The accident occurred when a westbound Mustang (SUV) turned onto Hwy 35 into the path of a northbound Honda Accord. The collision caused the SUV to spin backwards and the accord ended up off the roadway in the north ditch. The driver of the SUV, McKenzie Carpenter, 22, of Neligh was transported to FRHS by Norfolk Rescue and the driver of the accord, Heather Lenox, 48, of Norfolk was also transported to FRHS by Norfolk Rescue after she had to be removed from her wreckage. Seatbelts appear to have been in use and multiple airbags deployed in both vehicles. The SUV was an electric vehicle and extra care had to be undertaken with removing it from the scene. The north bound lanes of Hwy 35 were closed for about 45 minutes as the scene was cleared. Both vehicle were considered to be total losses and also assisting at the scene was Hoskins/Woodland Park Fire and Stanton County Emergency Management. “Again this is a great example of Seatbelts and Airbags lessening injuries” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
