Winter Weather Causing a Lot of Havoc on Stanton County Roads

Just before 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated an eastbound jackknifed semi and trailer accident on Hwy 275 near 564th Avenue west of Hwy 57 that closed most of the eastbound lanes. The semi was also leaking diesel fuel and a hazmat team from Norfolk Fire responded along with Stanton County Emergency Management. The wreckage was cleared and highway was finally completely open at about 9:00 a.m. Also numerous vehicle were reported to have slid off county highways due to poor road and visibility during the morning storm. Just before 8:00 a.m. the Sheriff’s office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident about two miles south of Stanton. The accident occurred when the northbound jeep lost control and entered the east ditch and rolled. The driver and her daughter were wearing seatbelts and declined medical treatment at the scene. Norfolk Rescue and Stanton Fire also responded to the scene. The jeep is considered a total loss.
