On Saturday evening at about 6:30 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office stopped a vehicle on Hwy 15 about 12 miles south of Wayne. The driver and both occupants were found to have been consuming alcoholic liquor and had open alcohol containers. The driver was finally identified as Manuel Hernandez, 21, of Fremont after providing a false name. He was further found to be driving with a revoked driver’s license and had two arrest warrants out of Dodge County. The front seat passenger also provided a false name before being identified as Martin Juarez-Ortiz, 26, of Fremont. He was found to have both Dodge and Washington County arrest warrants outstanding. Both men were arrested on various criminal charges along with the warrants and jailed. The third passenger was cited for an Open Container Violation. All three men are believed to be unlawfully in the country, however due to current federal law, local law enforcement is not able to take any enforcement action against them for that violation. “This just shows again, where regular traffic enforcement gets violators and criminals off our roadways.” Sheriff Mike Unger
