On Wednesday afternoon at about 3:41 p.m., the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle injury accident about a 1/4 mile north of the Hwy 35 and East Benajmin Avenue intersection, that sent a 76 year old Norfolk man to the hospital. The accident occurred when a southbound SUV on Hwy 35 lost control and crossed the southbound lanes and then crossed thru the Hwy 35 median and across both northbound lanes and entered the median between Hwy 35 and Old Hwy 35 striking a culvert. The SUV then continued onto Old Hwy 35 and travelled about forty yards on the paved sidewalk before coming to rest back in the median between the two roadways. The lone driver was removed from the wreckage by first responders and transported to FRHS by Norfolk Fire and Rescue. Seatbelts were in use and multiple airbags deployed. The vehicle is considered a total loss and miraculously no other vehicles were involved. Woodland Park Fire and Rescue and the Madison County Sheriff’s office also assisted on scene. The driver was later transferred to an Omaha hospital by medical helicopter for treatment of his injuries.
