Just before 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a one vehicle accident just north of Stanton on Hwy 57. The accident occurred when the 15-year-old female driver travelling south on Hwy 57 towards Stanton H.S. swerved to miss a rodent on the highway. This caused the driver to lose control entering the west ditch and then crossing back over the highway and entering the deep east ditch, where it glanced off a power pole and went through a barb wire fence before coming to rest. The driver was unable to get out of the vehicle without assistance and was treated at the scene by Stanton Rescue and after declining medical transport was taken by family for further treatment. Seatbelts were in use and the vehicle is considered a total loss.
