Omaha Man Arrested in Possession of Stolen SUV on Hwy 275

On Friday night at about 10:30 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was notified that a stolen SUV from Iowa was driving west on Hwy 51 east of Wisner possibly towards Norfolk. The SUV had just been stolen from a convenience store in Onawa, IA when the SUV owner went inside the store to get a drink and left his 2018 Tahoe running. An unknown male entered the SUV and drove away without permission heading towards the state line. The westbound SUV was located by the Sheriff’s office as it entered Stanton County and ultimately was stopped and the lone driver was detained following a hi-risk traffic stop on Hwy 275 about one mile east of Spurville. Not knowing if the SUV may attempt to flee when the traffic stop was initiated, other Sheriff’s units were positioned near the Hwy 57/275 junction (Spurville) with deflation spikes ready to be deployed if needed. The suspect was identified as Corey Dugger, 38, last known to be from Omaha. Dugger was placed under arrest for Theft by Receiving, Driving During Suspension and being a Habitual Criminal as he has more than two prior felony convictions with prison terms served. The SUV was secured and later returned to the owner who was travelling on Interstate 29 from Sioux Falls, SD. Monona County, Iowa has indicated that they will be pursuing felony theft charges against Dugger as well.
