Two Omaha Woman Arrested on Felony Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop Near Stanton

At about 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening the Stanton County Sheriff’s office stopped a vehicle for having a headlight out on Hwy 275 about five miles north of Stanton. The vehicle was driven by John Newberry III, 48, of Omaha. He was found to have a suspended license and also he had been arrested last month by the sheriff’s office for driving more than 90 mph with a suspended license on Hwy 275 in a Stolen 2021 pickup out of Omaha. Two passengers in his vehicle Megan Cooper, 33, and Britney Hovendick, 23, both of Omaha were found to be each in possession of methamphetamine. Both were also in possession of stolen financial transaction devices, including blank social security cards and I.D. cards of other people. Cooper was also found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Both Cooper and Hovendick were jailed pending the setting of bonds. More than 8 grams of methamphetamine was recovered. Newberry was cited for DUS again and released after his vehicle was impounded.
