On Friday, the Stanton County Sheriff’s office received a Hi-Grade ballistic shield that was paid for and provided by Nucor Steel Corporation-Norfolk. The shield cost more than $2500.00 and is effective and bullet resistant up to small caliber rifles. Obtaining a shield was the idea of the Sheriff’s office and Stanton County Emergency Management Director Michael Frohberg who coordinated the request and donation from Nucor. “This is the first shield in our inventory due to being cost prohibitive and can obviously be used in many different scenarios giving law enforcement and other innocent parties some protection against lethal force and we are very thankful to Nucor for their financial support and having our six”, said Sheriff Mike Unger.
