School Bus vs. Car Accident Sends Four To Hospital

At 6:57 a.m. on Monday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to and investigated a school bus versus car traffic accident that sent four people to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The accident was on 562nd Avenue just north of 843rd Road (East Benjamin Avenue). The accident occurred when the northbound bus and southbound car met at the crest of a hill and they collided with the car sideswiping the Stanton Community Schools bus as the bus swerved into the ditch.  The driver of the car, James Short, 23, of Woodland Park was transported to FRHS by Hoskins/Woodland Park Rescue. The driver of the bus, Dallas Heppner, 56, of Hoskins was not injured and three siblings of elementary age were transported to FRHS by Norfolk Fire and Rescue.  There were two other elementary students on the bus that were not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene.  The car was a total loss and the bus suffered extensive damage.  Seatbelts were in use by both drivers and airbags deployed in the sedan.
