On Friday afternoon at about 5:10 p.m., Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger had just completed stopping a a vehicle that had been reported to our 911 communications center as driving westbound all over the roadway on Hwy 275 east of Norfolk by other drivers. That driver was stopped and found not to be impaired and was released with a warning for driving on the shoulder. As the Sheriff was heading back east on Hwy 275, he encountered a westbound sedan travelling at 123 mph in the 70 mph zone east of 564th Road. The vehicle initially would not stop and was pursued for about a mile before it stopped off Hwy 275 on 563rd Avenue. The driver, Greg L. Ramse, 38, of Des Moines, IA was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest for DWI along with the speeding 123/70, and an open container of alcohol violation. He was booked at the Sheriff’s office where he provided a failing breath sample that was more than twice the legal limit. Ramse was then jailed on a felony charge of Third Offense DWI (Above .150% BAC.) pending the setting of a cash bond. Ramse has prior DWI Convictions in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. Ramse advised he was enroute to Norfolk for the 4th of July weekend. “A citizen report concerned that an erratic driver may be impaired, put us in a position to get a dangerous and a very impaired driver off our highways, who was a danger to everyone in their path! If you see or suspect impaired or reckless driving, please immediately report it to 911 as you are our extra eyes on the roadways.” SHERIFF MIKE UNGER
