At about 5:25 a.m. on Sunday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was notified and responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Hwy 15 about 10 miles South of Pilger that occurred when a southbound pickup pulling a horse trailer crossed the centerline and struck a guardrail and went through about 60 feet of guardrail before going over the steep embankment and rolling about forty feet into the deep ditch near a creek coming to a rest on its top. The lone 21 year old driver from rural West Point is believed to have fallen asleep when the accident occurred between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. The driver was treated at the scene and transported to the West Point hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt and the pickup and trailer are considered total losses. A horse in the trailer had to be euthanized. Pilger Fire and Rescue and Wisner Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene. Extensive damage to the guardrail will be repaired by Nebraska DOT.
