Sheriff’s Office Stops Vehicle With 12 Year Old Driving on Hwy 35

At about 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday morning the Stanton County Sheriff’s office stopped a 2011 Audi for having excessive window tint on Hwy 35 near Woodland Park. The driver was identified as a 12-year-old male who advised he was learning to drive with a 22-year-old passenger that he identified as a relative. The passenger was identified as Josmar Aguirre-Rizo of Wayne and he has no valid driver’s license. Both occupants indicated they just moved to Wayne after crossing the border from Nicaragua and are believed to be unlawfully in the country. The boy was cited for No Driver’s License and Aguirre-Rizo was cited for unlawfully allowing the youth to operate a motor vehicle. The Sheriff’s office has no authority to enforce immigration laws or status that are solely the purview of Federal authorities.
