Just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to a disturbance call at a residence in Woodland Park. While enroute to the scene, 911 dispatchers advised the male suspect who had gained entry by breaking a door was armed with a gun. Upon arriving contact was made with Charles Owens, 38, of Norfolk and he was detained. He admitted having a handgun and throwing it into a field just prior to law enforcement arrival and then later changed his story. He was then arrested on charges of Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, Disturbing the Peace, Third Degree Assault, Prohibited Acts (Under Influence of Illegal Drugs), and Attempted Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (Handgun) by a Prohibited Person/Felon. The handgun was never recovered after a thorough search of the area and anyone locating a gun in Woodland Park is asked to immediately contact the Sheriff’s office. Owens was jailed pending the posting of a cash bond that has yet to be set.
