Unusual Accident on Hwy 275 Causes Traffic Havoc for Nearly Seven Hours

Just before 3:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office was notified of a one vehicle accident on Hwy 275, just west of the old Pilger rest area that was partially blocking the westbound lane. Upon arriving at the scene, the roadway was covered with debris after axles of a semi-trailer broke loose and disintegrated and caused a mobile home that was being transported to tilt precariously off the broken trailer. The westbound lane was closed for nearly six hours as the Sheriff’s office, Stanton County Emergency Management, Nebraska Department of Transportation and Pilger Fire/Rescue worked to direct traffic around the scene as a special wrecker crew was summoned from the Fremont area and worked to stabilize the load and repair the axles before the trailer could be safely stabilized and moved. The highway was cleared shortly before 10:00 p.m. and the trailer did cause damage to the roadway that will be addressed by DOT. No injuries were reported and damage to the trailer is in the thousands of dollars.
